VOWS

You’ve got your best mate / mum / godparent / Uncle Albert to perform your wedding ceremony - and that is as it should be!

Perhaps they don’t have loads of experience with guiding you through your vows, and you aren’t sure what to write or how to get this going.

Fear not! I’m here to help…

Porth-en-Alls wedding ceremony in Cornwall

“Our wedding ceremony was truly spectacular and special ... It wasn't just the ceremony itself though - all of our sessions beforehand were so valuable and gave so much meaning to the ceremony, our relationship, and our marriage going forward.

We are going to revisit our vows and all of the answers to the questions you asked us each year on our anniversary. It felt SO much more powerful doing that work and answering those questions than just turning up and repeating vows like last year.

We feel like we have set up proper foundations and promises to each other now. We really feel so fortunate to have gone on this journey with you.”

Want to write your own wedding vows, but not sure where to start?

I can coach you in the creation of original vows that are pulsing with your true feelings, personalities and intentions for your future together.

To work out what you want to say to each other it is essential that you reflect on your relationship - how you have got to this point and how you want to continue. Who are you? What needs to be said, what wants to be said and why are you making this commitment?

You may not think of yourself as a writer, or as a 'creative' person, but your words will be different to my words and what you have to say is the apex of your wedding ceremony. It's what everyone wants to hear - and it's what your fiancé wants to hear.

There are many different ways to do this and it's all about finding your voice and writing words that you can speak with confidence and authenticity. They can be succinct, snappy and banter-ful. They can be lyrical and intimate. They can be heartfelt declaration of your emotional world that you dare to let people in on.

Writing original vows is an act of real intimacy and is one of the greatest gifts you can give. It's you expressing yourself and how you feel in the way that only you can.

Through these sessions I will set you writing tasks to free up your creative mind and voice, safely navigating your way to writing your own vows. I'll set preparation and follow-up homework to maximise our time together, whether you need one call or a short series. We'll look at my vault of real-life wedding ceremony scripts and what other couples I've worked with have created.

During my theatre career, I specialised as a dramaturg (a person who works on the structure and cohesiveness of scripts) and a director who developed new writing alongside playwrights. I understand how intimidating the creative writing process can be, and I know how to manage those critical voices.

Michelle & Michael Prittlewell Priory Wedding Ceremony

"Both Michael and I had different reasons for wanting to get married but we both agreed that it needed to be personal to us and meaningful. When we contacted Alex she was really helpful, she explained the process, our options and basically held our hands through it all from start to finish.

Even if you're not sure whether a celebrant wedding is for you I would strongly recommend having a consultation with Alex just so you can make an informed choice - but trust me, it will make it one of the most memorable days of your life."

Holly & Nikki on their wedding day

“Alex asked us all the right questions to help us think through not just the event of the wedding itself, but also what we wanted for our marriage together. She wasn’t afraid to ask some quite difficult questions, and really took the time to make sure we had thought everything through thoroughly, for ourselves, without forcing anything.

Alex is warm and open and a thoughtful listener - we really felt held throughout the consultation - she gave us the time to ask all the questions we wanted to ask and gave her experience and advice generously and gently.”
